One year ago, the Restored Church of God, under the leadership of Mr. David C. Pack, published a scathing indictment of a book entitled A Sabbath Test as well as its authors, Dennis Fischer and Art Braidic. The book examines the issue of dining out on the Sabbath and presents a compelling Biblical argument for refraining from this practice.
Throughout the RCG article, Braidic and Fischer were dismissed as insignificant nobodies attempting to exploit this issue in an effort to further divide the church. Additionally, Mr. Pack, through his team of writers, passionately advanced a series of convoluted arguments in defense of his position. In essence, Mr. Pack believes that God's people may go out into spiritual Egypt on the Sabbath and purchase the services of those who are desecrating this wonderful day. At one point he personally referred to those who teach against this sin as preaching "bondage." Pardon us, but we always thought that Egypt pictured bondage. And whether he believes it or not, spiritual Egypt is exactly where Mr. Pack teaches that God's people may go on the day God consecrated. Messers Fischer and Braidic rightfully argue that God's people must come out spiritual Egypt.
Since the RCG published their position on this issue, much has transpired. Numerous messages by various COG groups have been presented on this topic. Some have even conceded that the points addressed in A Sabbath Test have changed their thinking. Others have vehemently defended their opposition by employing an endless stream of "yeah buts" and "what ifs?"
Approximate six months after the RCG article, Richard George of the Living Church of God weighed in on the issue. He wrote a lengthy letter to Fischer and Braidic and accused them of twisting the scriptures to fit their conclusion. However, when doing so Mr. George offered colossal distortions of God's word as well as personal theories regarding how God views this topic. For example: Mr. George contends that going out to restaurants on the Sabbath is a form of worship and referred to it as a "gift God gives to His people in the current distress."
Another leader of a prominent COG group acknowledged that although he dissagreed wit A Sabbath Test, it could not be refuted scripturally. We at Blow the Trumpet believe that is a huge concession.
Good News
While the majority of God's people continue to unwittingly engage in this sin, their numbers are shrinking. Virtually thousands of God's people have heard the powerful message proclaimed in A Sabbath Test. Additionally, significant numbers (including ministers) have changed their position on this vital truth. Some were profoundly moved to do so by not only the forceful scriptural evidence presented in A Sabbath Test, but also by the frivolous human arguments presented by Mr. Pack and Mr. George.
As this issue continues to echo through God's Church, we invite you to carefully study it. The stakes are simply too high to let others do your thinking for you. Below are two wings that address the issues presented by those who trivialize God's sacred law regarding dining out on the Sabbath. We think you will find them most interesting.
Respectfully,
Blow the Trumpet
