SEOUL, South Korea  —  North Korea blasted U.N. sanctions Tuesday aimed at punishing the country for its atomic test, saying the measures were a declaration of war and that the nation wouldn't yield to such pressure now that it's a nuclear weapons power.

Scattered Violence Kills 28 in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq  —  Bombings and shootings across Iraq killed at least 28 people on Tuesday, while U.S. troops aided Iraqi security forces in containing sectarian fighting in Balad that has killed close to 100 people.

BAGHDAD, Iraq —  A series of bomb blasts went off in rapid succession in a shopping district in a mainly Christian neighborhood of Baghdad on Wednesday, killing 16 people and wounding 87, police said.

North Korea's Neighbors Warn Against Nuclear Tests

SEOUL, South Korea —  North Korea faced stern warnings from its neighbors Wednesday against carrying out an unprecedented nuclear test but insisted the move wasn't meant to be a provocation. A top South Korean official said there was no sign a test was imminent.

SEOUL, South Korea -North Korea announced Tuesday that it will conduct a nuclear test in the face of what it claimed was an "extreme threat of a nuclear war" by the United States. The declaration provoked alarm and condemnation from leaders around the world.
