What is a Beatitude?

Question:
The Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7) begins with what are commonly referred to as the “beatitudes.” What is a “beatitude”?
Our Answer:
The word beatitude does not come from the Bible, or even the Greek for that matter. Beatitude comes from the Latin term beatus, which means, “blessed.” Therefore, a beatitude is a saying associated with a blessing.
