"An American Epitaph" Part 2

Summary: By Blow the Trumpet

The words that follow represent the second installment of a two part sermon addressing the story of America from its inception and birth to the present day and how that story has a striking resemblance to that of ancient Israel including the cautionary words of Israel’s prophets and America’s founding fathers—each warning of a mortal threat to the survival of their countries—a threat whose fulfillment today appears perilously close. 

It was presented by Mr. Dennis Fischer on July 1, 2017 to two congregations of the United Church of God and was prompted by a growing disintegration of American virtue and the price they will be forced to pay for abandoning the values that once defined what was considered the Greatest Nation in human history. The first installment was presented the week prior.

Mr. Fischer is a long standing member of God’s Church and has spoken as well as written prolifically about God’s Kingdom, His Plan and His People.

And now Blow the Trumpet is honored to include as the Fifteenth Volume of its Legacy Collection. An American Epitaph Part II.

Sermon

Salutation:     

Good morning everyone!

Brethren, this Tuesday millions of Americans across this land will be celebrating our nation’s independence.

In consideration of this celebration last Sabbath I gave a message which ostensibly told the story of America’s infancy and how it was significantly influenced by a deeply embedded attachment to Biblical history and Judeo Christianity.

Today I would like to continue her story and specifically how it directly impacts the United States and her people today. 

To do this we’ll need to go back to an ancient time and an ancient place

So let’s begin.

Introduction:

A Lesson from Ancient Israel

Brethren, throughout the Old Testament, the nation of Israel played a prominent role in God’s plan. 

The scriptures reveal that the Almighty intended to use them as an example for all the world to see of how a people could be rightly governed. 

Here is how Moses explained it to them

Deuteronomy 4:5-8

Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the Lord my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. 

Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. 

For what nation is there so great, who has God so nigh unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for? 

And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day? 

Brethren, in short, Israel was to stand as a model to all the world of what it would truly be like to be “one nation under God.” 

Imagine This 

Imaging living in such a place—a nation where God Himself was the architect of its government. 

Well, the descendants of Jacob were given that opportunity. 

However, the Bible also indicates that this great nation would ultimately reject God’s moral authority and leadership and as a result be destroyed by its enemies and led away as captive slaves. 

As a result, all the prosperity and abundance they had enjoyed as a real super-power would evaporate and be replaced with untold misery and suffering. 

Her story goes like this.

Body:

The Birth of a Nation

Brethren, almost thirty-five hundred years ago, the children of Israel were rescued from a horrible oppression—inflicted on them by the nation of Egypt, who at that time was the premier super-power on earth. 

Shortly after this deliverance, the God of their fathers (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) entered into a special covenant with them. 

The terms of this covenant were really quite simple. 

A Covenant with Israel

God introduced the terms of this covenant by first explaining that there was a very specific link (a nexus if you will) between Israel’s obedience and His blessing. 

However, if Israel would obey they would become the preeminent nation on earth. 

Deuteronomy 28:1

And it shall come to pass, [that] if you shall hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord your God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command you this day, that the Lord your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth. 

 An Extraordinary Promise

Brethren, this is an extraordinary promise. 

Here, the very God who led Israel out of Egypt, and in doing so, brought the mightiest nation on earth to its knees, was promising a collection of slaves that they were to become a nation to which all other nations would look up. 

He then outlined a series of extraordinary blessings that would befall them if they obeyed. 

Deuteronomy 28: 2-6

And all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you shall hearken unto the voice of the Lord your God. 

Moses then identifies 11 specific blessings:

• Blessed shall you be in the city, and 
• blessed shall you be in the field. 
• Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, and 
• the fruit of your ground, and 
• the fruit of your cattle, 
• the increase of your kine,  
• and the flocks of your sheep. 
• Blessed shall be your basket 
• and your store. 
• Blessed shall you be when you come in, and
• blessed shall you be when you go out.           

A Charmed Life

With these words, God was explaining that if Israel would rely on Him and heed His voice, they would live what could only be described as a “charmed life.” 

Whatever they would do and wherever they would do it would turn out right.

Military Superiority 

He then promised Israel that although they would have enemies, He would ensure their safety.

Deuteronomy 28:7

The Lord shall cause your enemies that rise up against you to be smitten before your face: they shall come out against you one way, and flee before you seven ways.

In essence:

They will form ranks when they attack 

 but they will break ranks when they retreat

“You will scatter them like ants”

My friends, in the book of Leviticus, God indicated that Israel’s military superiority would be so overwhelming, that they would be able to rout armies that outnumbered them 100 to one.

Leviticus 26:8

And five of you shall chase a hundred, 

and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

Mind you that back then wars weren’t fought with “high tech” weapons where thousands of enemy combatants could be destroyed with a push of single button—wars were up close and personal—and combat was pretty much fought hand to hand. The point here is that fighting an army that outnumbered you 100 to 1 would truly be a daunting task but God promised them unqualified success.

But there is more

Incredible Physical Blessings

As the Almighty continued outlining the terms of His covenant He reaffirmed His promise of incredible physical blessings. 

He declared that Israel’s prosperity could even be seen in their food reserves.

Deuteronomy 28:8

The Lord shall command the blessing upon you in your storehouses, and in all that you set your hand unto; and he shall bless you in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

Brethren, what he was saying in effect was: 

“I will bless you in a way that will insure you never go hungry”

A Source of Inspiration

By the way, when God promised to bless “all that you set your hand to do,” He was declaring that He would even inspire Israel’s creative and technological efforts. 

In essence, He was saying that the great inventions and discoveries down through time would come through His people—including the exploration of space.

A Word of Caution

But alas, the Great Creator then reminded them that the tremendous relationship they were to enjoy with their Benefactor was predicated on their obedience. 

If they obeyed, the entire world would be in awe of them.

Deuteronomy 28:9-10

The Lord shall establish you as a holy people unto himself, as he has sworn unto you, if you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and walk in his ways. 

And all the people of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of you.

Afraid=Yare

To stand in awe & be astonished

In other words your Reputation will be legendary causing the whole world to be awe struck by you

The Greatest Wish List

God then continued to present what can only be considered the greatest “wish list” any nation on earth could ever construct. 

It included: 

• uncanny prosperity, 
• tremendous natural resources, including their climate, 
• as well as protection from their enemies. 

Ladies and gentlemen, imagine if a third world country today was presented with an opportunity to enter into such a covenant. 

For example, Haiti.

Consider what this impoverished nation would be offered.

Deuteronomy 28:11-13

“And the Lord shall make you plenteous in goods, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which the Lord swore unto your fathers to give you. 

The Lord shall open unto you his good treasure, the heavens to give rain unto your land in his season, [in other words a climate that will be conducive to prosperity and growth]  and to bless all the work of your hand: and you shall lend unto many nations, and you shall not borrow.

And the Lord shall make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall be above only, and you shall not be beneath...” 

An Intimate Relationship

My friends, the Eternal also promised that if Israel would honor His words, they would enjoy a very unique (and dare I say) an intimate relationship with Him.

Leviticus 26:11-12

“And I will set my tabernacle among you, and my soul shall not abhor you. 

And I will walk among you, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people.”

Having God as a Partner

Ladies and gentlemen, imagine a nation being offered the opportunity to have the GREAT GOD of Heaven as its partner in whatever it endeavored to do. 

• In the “arts,” He would be there. 
• In the “sciences,” He would be there. 
• In “labor and agriculture,” He would be there. 
• In “research and technology,” He would be there. 
• In medicine and health, He would be there
• In Military Preparedness, He would be there

The all-powerful, all knowing King of everything that exists would be an endless source of inspiration and the eternal force behind every blessing. 

My friends, with these words, the Governor of ETERNITY itself was extending to His children the greatest package of national blessings ever assembled. 

Consider what God was promising them.

Israel Would:

Multiply in population,

Expand in territory,

Thrive in labor and commerce, and

Increase in wealth and prosperity.

Their defenses would be the strongest,

Their economy the richest,

Their prestige would extend to every corner of the world,

And they would be the envy of all the nations on earth.

Their enemies would fear them,

Their friends would respect them, and

Their God would love them.

All of this in exchange for one thing: “OBEY MY VOICE.” 

Brethren, this offer by the Almighty looks like the greatest “no-brainer” in history. It is hard to imagine anyone contemplating it for even a second. 

The Big Question

However, with that said a question leaps out—begging to be answered.

Here it is.

Has a nation ever existed that was so blessed?

Ladies and gentlemen, it is hard to imagine that any nation in human history more closely reflects those promises than the United States. 

This great land can stake claim to every one of them as no other nation in human history can. 

• America has enjoyed the greatest strength, 
• the richest economy, and 
• the most extraordinary advances in science and technology. 
• Its soil is the richest. 
• Its climate the most accommodating 
• And its natural resources the most abundant.
• Its freedoms the most prolific
• Its laws the most just 
• and its reputation as a global philanthropist is legendary 

In other words this country has been the wealthiest, the healthiest, the freest, the safest, the fairest, and the kindest place on earth,

It has been called a “Land of Dreams” and has been the most coveted ticket in the history of immigration. 

Abraham Lincoln

My friends, for two centuries this nation has seemingly rolled the dice and they keep coming up “seven.” 

Even a casual examination reveals that America is truly a land of promise and the beneficiary of Divine gifts. 

Abraham Lincoln certainly thought so and put it this way:

“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown.”

But alas my friends, there was more to this covenant—

Another side if you will.

The Price of Defiance

For you see, after outlining the unimaginable blessings He would bestow on Israel in consideration of their obedience, God introduced the consequences of disobedience and make no mistake about it those consequences would be catastrophic. 

If His people choose to rebel, their 

• wealth would turn to poverty, their 
• health to incurable sickness including mental illness, their
• strength to weakness, their 
• fame to contempt, their 
• respect to shame and their 
• hope to despair. 

In essence, the Great God who provided for and sustained Israel explained that if His people rebelled, all their blessings would be a thing of the past. 

None of the great abundance they had come to know would be left—only empty storehouses. 

No matter where or when they looked, the only thing they would see would be NOTHING.

Add to that, there would be no place in all the land that would be exempt from God’s judgment. 

Whether it was commerce and industry in the city or farming and agriculture in the country, everything would fail.

Deuteronomy 28:15

But it shall come to pass, if you will not hearken unto the voice of the Lord your God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you this day; that all these curses shall come upon you, and overtake you: 

(1) Cursed shall you be in the city, and (2) cursed shall you be in the field (Dt. 28:16) (3) Cursed shall be your basket (4) and your store. (5) Cursed shall be the fruit of your body, and (6) the fruit of your land, (7) and the increase of your kine, (8) and the flocks of your sheep. (9) Cursed shall you be when you come in, and (10) cursed shall you be when you go out. (Dt. 28:17-19)

Students of History

Brethren, at this point it is absolutely critical for you to understand that America’s founding fathers were students of history and they were very familiar with the history of ancient Israel.

It is for this reason that nearly 2 1/2 centuries ago they actually saw an inextricable link between the nation God delivered out of the hand of Egypt and the one He delivered out of the hand of Great Britain.

They saw both Israel and the United States as a people of destiny.

With a common origin and a shared faith.

Last week we learned that it was for this very reason that they used ancient Israel as the model for America’s laws and its government.

• Not Rome
• Not Greece
• Not Western Europe
• Israel

And they fully expected God to bless them for their efforts.     

This is because they were keenly aware of the Almighty’s providential hand playing out in the ancient world and desperately wanted it to play out in their new country as well. 

In short, they craved to inherit the blessings described in Deuteronomy 28.

And I believe they spoke about them often.

On a personal note, I am fully persuaded that our colonial ancestors just may have been the most Biblically literate nation of all time.

In their America every home had a Bible and its wisdom was demonstrably the centerpiece of American life.

Alexis de Tocqueville

According to the 19^th century French historian Alexis de Tocqueville:

“In the United States the sovereign authority is religious…[and] there is no country in the world where the Christian religion retains a greater influence over the souls (lives) of men than in America, and there can be no greater proof of its utility and of its conformity to human nature (behavior) than the fact that its influence is powerfully felt over the most enlightened and free nation on earth.”

Brethren, as we learned last week Tocqueville saw the evidence of a real faith throughout the colonies with his own eyes.

And he was profoundly affected by it.

A Timeless Principle

Ah, but alas my friends, the founding fathers were also acutely aware of that timeless principle.

“You honor me—I’ll bless you

If you don’t, I won’t”

In other words, they knew that defiance to the God of the Bible came with huge national consequences.

This was the great moral imperative of their age and a warning from them to every succeeding generation—including the one we’re in right now.

Consider their cautionary admonitions.

Abraham Lincoln’s Warning

Brethren, we just heard the sentiments of President Abraham Lincoln concerning the remarkable blessings God dispensed on this country.

However, Lincoln was also deeply concerned about a sense of national arrogance that would make the horrible mistake of thinking that its prominence was the result of some personal skill and talent or even GOODNESS of their own.

And he expressed this concern in the form of a rebuke: Notice what this great American said, and I quote:

“But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.”

Brethren, later we’re going to hear those words again only this time they will be uttered by the great prophet Isaiah.

But there is more.

The Jefferson Warning

Last week we heard the words of Thomas Jefferson when he expressed his concern over a nation who would forget its Benefactor as the true source of their FREEDOM

However, I only cited part of his warning.

Here is the full text:

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people, that these liberties are a gift from God?”

It’s a rhetorical question brethren. The answer is NO!

And if you have any doubts about this, consider the rest of Jefferson’s warning.

“That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; and that His justice cannot sleep forever.”

Brethren, the history of ancient Israel stands as undeniable proof that Jefferson was right.

And sadly our own history is going to prove him right again.

In the ominous words of Benjamin Franklin:

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom as a nation becomes corrupt and violent they have more need of masters”

Dennis Prager

Brethren, the prominent American radio personality and bestselling author, Dennis Prager once offered his wisdom concerning the future of this country and when doing so expressed a profound truth in the form of four short words—

A truth that echoes the sentiments of the great champions who staked their very lives and fortunes in the cause of freedom over 200 years ago.

Here is what he said:

“America cannot survive Godlessness”

Dennis Prager

Brethren, this is a principle as immutable as the law of gravity.

Furthermore, it is the anchor that steadies the covenant God makes with His people—a covenant that DEMANDS compliance while eschewing defiance. 

The Wisdom of Daniel Webster

With that said, I would like you to consider the cautionary wisdom of the great 19^th century statesman, Daniel Webster.

Like those of Jefferson, as well as Mr. Prager and numerous founding fathers his words offer a chilling warning:

Listen Carefully Everyone.

"If we and our posterity (hat’s us) shall be true to the Christian religion, if we and they shall live always in the fear of God and shall respect His commandments, we may have the highest hopes of the future fortunes of our country”. 

But, if we and our posterity (that’s us)

• neglect religious instruction and authority, 
• violate the rules of eternal justice, 
• trifle with the injunctions of morality, 
• and recklessly destroy the political constitution which holds us together, 

no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us that shall bury all our glory in profound obscurity." 

Brethren, does this warning speak to you?

Well it should.

Because today we are witnessing the fulfillment of these words play out right before our very eyes.

Transition

Brethren, at this point I want you to consider how they are graphically revealed in eight specific examples that now define this country and its people:

Some may find them vulgar and repulsive.

However, if you are among those who find them insulting to hear, you can’t imagine how PAINFUL they are to express.

“This Once Great Nation”

Example I

Faith

To illustrate this point consider the following

In 1828 Noah Webster completed a 26-year project of writing An American Dictionary of the English Language.

It contained over 70,000 entries and 12,000 new definitions. 

And for the first time in history, English vocabulary words had a standardized spelling.

In the preface of this work, Webster wrote the following: 

“In my view, the Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed… 

No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people.”

Brethren, as we learned last week this particular sentiment was a constant refrain from the lips of most, if not all, the founding fathers.

They not only believed it. They cherished it—and for a time, lived it!

By the way, although not a founding father President Harry S Truman offered this wisdom: 

“The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from Isaiah and St. Paul. I don’t think we emphasize that enough these days. 

If we don’t have a proper fundamental [religious] background, we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”

Mocking God

Sadly, today this country has become a place where God and His moral authority are mocked with impunity and held in contempt—

A place where every attempt is being made to expunge the knowledge of the Creator out of our national landscape. 

A place where America's moral fabric is now shaped by valueless secularists who embrace moral relativism and reject divine absolutes. 

A National Contamination

Today, our nation has been contaminated by a consortium of cultural thinkers who have taken upon themselves the role of High Priests of a “new morality.”

In that capacity they promulgate a lie that asserts that this nation was never founded on a partnership between faith and freedom regardless of what the framers expressed. 

And when doing so they relentlessly attack those who believe otherwise as “religious fanatics” attempting to build a theocracy. 

They even go so far as to assert that any public expression of faith, especially Christianity, is a threat to our liberty.  

What they refuse to accept is the wisdom of the United States Supreme Court as rendered on February 29, 1892.

“Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind.

It is impossible that it should be otherwise, and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian.”

Brethren, despite the overwhelming evidence testifying to the deep Judeo-Christian roots of this country a secular voice continues to attempt to shout it down and bury it.

What Did We Get?

And what have we gotten for it? 

A Nation of VIOLENCE and the fulfillment of a prophecy uttered by the American patriot Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence who once warned that: And I quote: 

“if America ever removed the Bible from the classroom, all of its time would be spent fighting crime.” 

Brethren, think of the good doctor’s words as they relate to America today.

For example: DID YOU KNOW THAT: 

Brethren, when speaking about the violence that had consumed ancient Israel and the judgment that would ultimately befall them because of it the GREAT prophet Isaiah wrote: 

Isaiah 59:3

“For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity;”

Brethren, does this sound like anyone you know today?

Example II

Abandoning Injunctions of Morality

As a result, social engineers like the ACLU will in one breath argue that any mention of God in a public setting now poses a clear and present danger to the republic, and in the next, defend an artist’s right to display a work entitled Piss Christ in which a crucifix is immersed upside down in a glass of urine. 

Furthermore, to add insult to injury, when doing so they have the audacity to proclaim that their defense of this vulgarity is essential in preserving our American way of life and the freedoms we enjoy. 

Smut & Garbage

Meanwhile, hot on the heels of this logic is an avalanche of smut and garbage all posing as freedom of expression—but God forbid anyone ever call it what it really is.

Pornography now fills the Internet, making it accessible to anyone of any age with a computer. 

Brethren, consider the devastating impact of this one vice alone as revealed in verifiable statistics released just a few years ago—the numbers of which are truly mind-boggling. 

For example: Did you know:

• military conflict, 
• slave labor, 
• prostitution and 
• pornography. 

Did you know:

Even in the Church, not only has divorce become a common reality, but today God’s people think nothing of seeking relationships outside the faith. 

Brethren, with that said, here is something you might find interesting.

On April 19, 1775 Jonathan Trumbull (a prominent figure in colonial America) and the Governor of Connecticut having observed a sense of moral decay declared a day of prayer and fasting for his state. His hope was that:

“God would graciously pour out His Holy Spirit on us and bring us to a thorough Repentance and effectual Reformation that our iniquities not be our ruin; that He would restore, preserve and secure the Liberties of this and all the American colonies and make the Land a mountain of Holiness and a Habitation of Righteousness forever.”

Character and Morality

Brethren, it is remarkably tragic that American’s today are so far removed from grasping the value of character and morality as well as having any appreciation for the importance of heartfelt contrition and repentance.

Instead, they embrace values they glean from entertainment venues that condone premarital sex and infidelity, promote obscene language, and advocate fashion that cries out “I’m easy.” 

Virtue has all but disappeared and has been replaced by a mantra that shouts out “Get it! Get it now! Get it right now!”

Once again, I ask, does this sound familiar?

Does it remind you of anyone today?

Example III

Sexual Depravity

In some colonies the Biblical prohibition as recorded in Leviticus was actually quoted verbatum in their statutory language.

Add to that, is the fact that some colonies considered homosexuality a capital crime and prescribed a penalty of death for engaging in it—including New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Delaware and South Carolina.

And even as the nation grew, its opposition to this particular practice remained so entrenched that there were anti sodomy laws in all fifty states—with each state considering it a felony prior to 1962. 

The Law of the Land

Today, the legalization of Same Sex marriage has become the law of the land and a right protected by the “Constitution.”

However, despite our contemporary enlightenment, this country’s founders (who wrote the Constitution) saw this issue much differently.

For example:

By the way, the word he actually used for “castrated” was “dismembered”

The point:

Here is the point:

Brethren there was a time when this practice was universally regarded by the patriots who built this nation as a moral depravity and as such was afforded absolutely no protection by law—let alone the Constitution.

A Sad Commentary

Sadly, this sin is now proudly recognized by some of America’s premier figures as a virtue and anyone who opposes it branded “a hate filled bigot.”

We even have parades celebrating this behavior and more recently, celebrities who have “Come OUT” have actually received phone calls from the president and other dignitaries congratulating them for their courage

More recently sodomy has been promoted as a positive lifestyle and the moral equivalent of traditional family relationships to elementary school children in books such as “My Two Mommies” and “My Two Daddies.”

Add to that some grammar school children have even been encouraged to experiment in this behavior themselves in order to make their own judgments regarding it.

Furthermore, when doing so these children have been advised to not share this “research” with their parents

But there is more:

A National Obsession

Today the United States is currently engaged in a national obsession over LGBT rights including gender identity with some of our nation’s most prominent leaders considering this cause “the greatest struggle for freedom in human history”—even eclipsing slavery

An Abomination

Brethren, this behavior has rightly been characterized by some as “a pernicious plague of sexual insanity creeping insidiously through American civilization.” 

Others have referred to those who promote it as “moral terrorists.”

And if you ask me, it is difficult to take exception with either of these assessments. 

What does God Say?

Brethren, when it comes to what Benjamin Franklin referred to as “the Sacred Writings” God’s word, despite all attempts to obfuscate them, it isn’t even close to silent on this issue.

For the record homosexuality is identified in scripture as an egregious act for which the Almighty has profound contempt.

When writing to the Church at Corinth the apostle Paul included homosexuals, who refuse to repent, among those who will never enter God’s Kingdom. 

And despite all modern attempts to redefine this practice, the scriptures proclaim without apology that sodomy is a crime against both God and nature.

Something to Think About 

With that said, here is something all Americans would be well advised to consider as this nation appears to be, in the words of Robert Bork, “slouching toward Gomorrah,” and as a result finds itself teetering on the brink of its own ruin. For you see it’s happened before:

A Lesson from History

Brethren, 2700 years ago another nation also enjoyed the favor of the Almighty.

It too was great.

However, it would fall out of His favor and as a result suffer unimaginable humiliation and disgrace. 

God actually used the prophet Isaiah to describe this nation’s wickedness. 

His words are recorded in Isaiah 3:9. And I quote:

Isaiah 3:9

“The show of their countenance doth testify against them. [in other words it’s written all over their face. They declare (flaunt) their sin as Sodom—they hide it not.” 

I’m just curious; but does this rebuke remind you of anyone today?

Example IV

Abortion

Today, however, with the concurrence of our nation’s highest Court over one million innocent lives are snuffed out every year in a practice that is now employed as just another method of birth control.

Post Row v. Wade

Even worse is the fact that since the passing of Row v. Wade nearly 60 million unborn American children have been the victims of this genocidal massacre.

Furthermore, there are legislators in certain states that as I speak, are endeavoring to draft laws that would compel all physicians to perform abortions or at the very least refer patients to abortion providers, even if those physicians are personally opposed to this practice on religious grounds, with failure to comply resulting in the loss of their medical license. Or even worse, criminal prosecution.

In other words, abortion which isn’t even obliquely mentioned in the Constitution is now regarded by some legislators and jurists alike as a greater right than freedom of religion which is prominently showcased in the first amendment.

A Real Tragedy

The real tragedy here is that virtually all scientific data now testifies to the fact that the pre-born are very real and very human.

For example, did you know:

• That an unborn child hiccups at the age of two months? 
• That they breathe, stretch, and feel their own faces two weeks later? 
• That they yawn a week after that? 
• That they suck and swallow in another two weeks?

In truth brethren, the unborn who abortion advocates dismiss as possessing no more value than a vestigial organ 

• kicks, 
• cries, 
• sucks his thumb, 
• feels, 
• dreams, 
• learns, 
• exercises, and even 
• assists his mother with his own entrance into our world.

Ladies and gentlemen, today, it has been scientifically demonstrated beyond ALL doubt that the unborn can recognize a parent’s voice and even make a distinction between languages.

Show me a vestigial organ that can do that.

How Does Science See It? 

Brethren, for anyone to define these miraculous beings as nothing more than “fetal tissue” is not only insulting but patently dishonest, Furthermore, it advocates a practice that is profoundly barbaric.

For those genuinely interested in the REAL truth regarding this issue here is something you might find interesting concerning the humanity of the unborn

Fourteen years after Row v Wade became the law of the land in 1973 Black’s Medical Dictionary, which was the standard reference source used by medical professionals throughout the English-speaking world, wrote the following in their 1987 edition under the entry “FOETUS”—in which they defined this term.

Here is their definition and I Quote:

“FOETUS” is the name given to the unborn child while in the womb.”

It is also interesting to note that the term “Fetus” comes from the Latin word meaning “YOUNG ONE”.

How Does God See It?

When it comes to the Sacred Writings, they are not silent regarding the sanctity of pre-born life either.

For example:

“For he will be great and distinguished in the sight of the Lord… and he will be filled with and led by the Holy Spirit, even in as well as from his mother’s womb.” (Luke 1:15)

No Condemnation

Brethren, with that said it is very important for you to understand that I do not condemn those who have made this horrible decision. 

Now please listen very carefully everyone.

Personally, I sincerely believe that in the vast majority of cases those who have chosen this path have done so because they had been overwhelmed by external forces in their life, including people that pressured them into it and when doing so persuaded them to believe they had no other choice—only to find out later that they did.

Furthermore, I am totally convinced that almost every woman who has ever faced this decision has been genuinely vexed by it, heartbroken over it, and overwhelmed with guilt because of it.

I am drawn to this conclusion because I am fully persuaded that abortion is totally at variance with the single most deep seated of maternal instincts (the protection of a child) and that the emotional suffering this choice tragically leaves in its wake is an inescapable manifestation of that fact.

This is why you will never hear of an abortion provider ever inviting a mother to listen to her unborn child’s heartbeat or see a sonogram revealing its form and likeness.

By the way, it is the only medical procedure in existence that refuses to do so.

The Point

The point here is that abortion is a practice shrouded in mystery by its own practitioners—and for good reason—if mothers were actually made aware of what was required during this procedure they would flee in terror.

A Final Thought

Finally, here is something that you may find interesting with respect to this issue.

The Psalms tell us that children are a heritage from God Almighty (Psalm 127:3)—in other words, a GIFT.

We sing Hymns to this effect.

With that said, how do you think God feels about Row v Wade?

Dismissing Virtue

Today however, America worships another god—the god of self and its doctrine of indulgence and avarice—

One that worships the creation and not the Creator—

One that calls evil good and good evil—

One that trusts in its own wickedness and allows itself to be perverted by its own wisdom—

One that the prophets describe as incapable of directing its own steps, yet arrogant enough to have said in its heart, “I am, and there is none else besides me.”

Today, in America, political aspirants will, in an attempt to hide some sordid details of their life argue that what a candidate practices in private including his faith or lack thereof or his sexual appetites or the lack thereof is irrelevant when considering their fitness as a leader.

However, this belief was rejected in colonial times.

In 1823 Noah Webster wrote:

“It is alleged by men of loose principles that religion and morality are not necessary or [even] important qualifications for political stations. 

But the scriptures teach a different doctrine. They direct that rulers should be men who rule in the fear of God, able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness.”

Brethren, imagine if our country today employed that standard.

What kind of leaders do think we’d have?

And what kind of witness would that leadership be to the entire world.

The Erosion of Our National Conscience

Brethren, because America has literally forsaken the principles espoused by her architects, she finds herself mired in the erosion of her national character.

And sadly, we have come a long way from embracing the great truths that once shaped our moral core.

Nothing more graphically illustrates this truth than an observation made by Ben Franklin when writing about American virtues to Europeans.

“...serious religion is respected and practiced... atheism is unknown and infidelity rare.”

Brethren, as difficult as this is to comprehend there was a time when this nation once believed:

Brethren, if you were to read an early 20th century grammar school textbook, you would find numerous references to God, Christianity, and the Bible—and each was treated with great deference and respect.

Brethren, imagine how different our country would be if these were the lessons etched in our children’s moral core today.

One thing is for certain—we sure wouldn’t be spending all our time fighting crime.

Example VI

Respect

Today, however, it has become a different country—one in which the “base rises up against the honorable.”

A country where civil discourse has been replaced with obscenity laced rants and even threats. 

A country where differences of opinion are met with violence and its citizens so consumed with unbridled hostility and animus that it has all the symptoms of a psychotic break.

A country where cultural icons will joke about killing the President and blowing up the White House as well as spewing out venomous attacks against the first Lady and her children.

A country where political leaders will actually proclaim their joy over the shooting of a US Congressman with the words “I wish he was “F-ing” dead” (Except they don’t use the term “F-ing).

A country where university students, who just a few years out of middle school, have the audacity to believe that they possess the intellectual prowess as well as the emotional maturity and wisdom to dictate how their academic masters should comport themselves.

And when doing so these “know it all” children will, in one breath demand safe spaces to protect their feelings, while in the next think nothing of resorting to vandalism and rioting not to mention thuggery and intimidation all in an effort to assert their childish will over people with whom they disagree. 

Something to think about

Brethren, I am not sure if you are aware of this but God once used the prophet Isaiah to describe the defiance of a nation He raised up and later abandoned and did so with these words:

“As for my people, children are their oppressors…”

Again, I’m just curious, but do these words remind you of anyone today?

Example VII

Racial Strife 

As a result, these criminals act out their rage by burning, looting and pillaging the very communities they live in and when doing so wreak havoc on domestic tranquility and civil order. 

Those who engage in this behavior are NOT freedom fighters or even advocates of social justice as they falsely claim. 

On the contrary, they are none other than anarchists and insurrectionists throwing a fit. 

They are vicious sadistic sociopathic Marxists thugs with little or no moral core—provocateurs and domestic terrorists committed to the total destruction of a nation for the sole purpose of satisfying an insatiable appetite for revenge against anything American.

Brethren, in truth they despise the United States and its Constitution as well as its flag and everything it represents. To them America is the embodiment of evil—only deserving of their contempt and open hostility—which they are more than willing to express.

Furthermore, even when engaging in “peaceful” marches, that aren’t peaceful at all, they chant obscenities such as: “Pigs in a blanket, fry ‘em like bacon” and “What do we want? Dead cops! When do we want it? Now!”—

Not that some haven’t suffered injustice at the hands of police. 

For indeed some have. 

A Very Rare Exception

However, despite protests to the contrary, today, these injustices constitute a very rare even minuscule exception as opposed to being the general rule as their advocates falsely assert.

Brethren, contrary to what all too many in the BLM or ANTIFA movements believe, the real cause of problems in America’s inner cities is not the presence of racist police but rather the absence of strong God-fearing nuclear families.

And until that need can be seriously addressed there will always be no justice and no peace.

Not a Racist Country

With that said, some may wonder:

Do I believe racism exists in the United States? Absolutely! 

Do I believe America is a racist country? Hell no!

Brethren, no country in the history of this planet has dedicated more human capital and financial resources to advancing the cause of racial equity and equal justice than the United States and it’s not even close.

In the Civil War alone nearly 400,000 union soldiers paid the ultimate price in this cause—far eclipsing every other military conflict this country has ever been involved in.

Furthermore, I am fully persuaded that there isn’t a person on earth living under a totalitarian government that wouldn’t be willing to paddle their way through shark infested waters and then give everything they possess for even a chance to live in this country complete with all its “racial shortcomings”.

And for good reason. 

My Friends, Think about this: 

America’s most enduring quality since its inception has been her steadfast conviction that all men are created equal by God Himself and as such are endowed by Him with certain inalienable rights. 

Our Colonial ancestors actually embraced this ideal as an article of their Christian faith.

And although she has fallen short in living out this creed, she continues to tenaciously pursue it including admitting her own mistakes and endeavoring to correct every one of them.

Alexis de Tocqueville 

“The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her own faults.”

Nothing more graphically illustrates Tocqueville’s observation than the fact that America has even amended her Constitution multiple times as well as enacted major civil rights legislation in the cause of racial equality.

Systemic Racism

Add to that, she has invited minorities into every aspect of her culture and life and celebrated when they excelled at them—thus enabling them to literally achieve iconic greatness in an endless array of professional endeavors including: 

• athletics, 
• entertainment, 
• medicine, 
• education, 
• science, 
• law, 
• aerospace,
• engineering, 
• finance, 
• literature, 
• religion, 
• military service and 
• politics 

to name just a few—all of which were once closed to them at one time—but now they have climbed to the very pinnacle of success in every one of them.

The point here is that if this country was truly systemically racist it wouldn’t be the slightest bit interested in integrating other groups into the mainstream of its society let alone cheer for them every step of the way. 

But cheer is exactly what America has done and continues to do.

In truth, this country is a lot of things but systemically racist is not one of them.

Then and Now

Sadly, today it is an undeniable fact that there exists a palpable animus between minorities and law enforcement.

But it wasn’t always this way. 

There was a time when police officers were treated with great deference and respect and were regarded as friends and positive fixtures in towns and neighborhoods across this land. 

These brave public servants were once viewed as celebrities by children and a great moral force in their life—they were the quintessential role model and the trusted grown-up’s young people could talk to and even confide in. 

The truth be known they did much more than just catch “bad guys,” they also invested their personal skills and talents in a variety of responsibilities they assume every time they put on the shield. 

In that capacity they became coaches, counselors, priests, chaperons, tutors, baby sitters, life guards, nurses, and even referees when necessity called for it. 

They were an attentive ear that listened thoughtfully and a compassionate shoulder to cry on and be comforted by.

They were always good for a quick game of H-O-R-S-E or a brief tour of their squad car.

They thought nothing of changing a tire for a widow or rescuing a family pet for a child or even buying a sandwich and a cup of “joe” for a guy down on his luck.

But most of all, they were the guardians of peace and cherished protectors—real heroes who always made you feel safe. 

My friends, the truth be known, there was a time when almost every kid wanted to be a cop. 

But sadly, that time is gone.

Deriding Police

Today, law enforcement personnel who in the vast majority of cases, risk their lives in the service of others by standing between them and danger are now seen as mortal threats when in reality the opposite is true.

Consider just some of the dangers they are called on to face every day.

• domestic violence, 
• child abuse, 
• kidnapping, 
• drug trafficking,
• murder 
• home invasions, 
• grand theft
• High speed chases
• assault, 
• rape
• armed robbery, 
• extortion, 
• threats and intimidation, and 
• gang activity and warfare to name just a few. 

Ladies and gentlemen, each of these calls places them in grave peril but they still answer every one of them dutifully as their oath requires.

The Most Reviled and Vilified Profession (:50)

Tragically, we now live in a country where police officers are routinely derided and shamed by citizens, politicians, and the media and falsely accused of every imaginable atrocity from harassment to brutality and even murder—but most often, the queen mother of all sins—RACISM. 

Never mind the fact that when self-less-ly performing their sworn duties these blue knights have been the targets of numerous murders at the hands of insidious thugs who lured them into an ambush—knowing they would come.

The truth be known, those who serve in law enforcement today are hands down members of the most reviled and vilified profession in American history when in truth they are actually the most selfless public servants in this nation.  

Something to Think About

With that said, here is something you may find interesting.

When describing the end of the world in the “Olivet Prophecy” Jesus of Nazareth indicated that it would be a period punctuated by great ethnic conflict and racial violence. 

He actually referred to this time as “the beginning of sorrows” (See Matthew 24:4-8).

When doing so He warned that: “Nation shall rise up against nation.” 

Friends, it is not by accident that the term “nation” recorded in Matthew’s account of the Messiah’s words is ethnos and refers to race—not country.

It is where we get the word “ethnic” and “ethnicity.”

In other words, Jesus was revealing that in the last days ethnic conflict would intensify at an alarming rate:

“RACE SHALL RISE UP AGAINST RACE.”

Once again, does this sound like anyone you know of today?

We now come to example 8.

Example VIII

Terrorism

And as unimaginable as this is, America is now so paralyzed with its own terror that it actually apologizes to the very savages that attack it and even make excuses for their homicidal behavior.  

And as if that isn’t enough many Americans even go so far as to turn this country into a cesspool of self-hatred by expressing their own personal guilt and shame for all the evil they have perpetrated on innocent people through slave trading as well as for the wealth they criminally plundered from indigenous people who had a legitimate prior claim to it.

SOMETHING ELSE

With that said, here is something else you might find worthy of reflecting on.

When entering into His covenant with ancient Israel God promised them unmatched military superiority in exchange for their obedience (Dt. 28:7-8)

However, He also warned that they would be confounded and routed by vastly inferior adversaries if they ever decided to take a different path. (Dt. 28:25-52)

Today, America’s blood is now being shed in primitive lands occupied by unsophisticated Bedouin tribesmen who have become so emboldened they have even taken their Jihads to American soil—and in doing so gunning down her citizens at random as well as leveling her great towers of financial strength.

Add to that, this country is now, despite its best efforts, losing a war against “gang bangers” with AK 47s hell bent on inflicting massive carnage and terror of their own.

My dear friends, can you see this in our country today?

Where Are We Headed? 

Ladies and gentlemen, this is just a short list of where this once great nation has been as well as where she currently finds herself today.

Now consider where she is going.

And my friends, it is not a good place.

Conclusion:

A Powerful Indictment

Ladies and gentlemen, the book of Isaiah contains one of the most powerful indictments ever leveled against a nation. 

It speaks of: 

• violence in its streets, 
• corruption in its courts, 
• evil and depravity proliferating at an unimaginable rate, 
• and the total rejection of its Creator and Sustainer. 

When doing so it reveals how such a great nation could fall out of favor with the God who made it great—and why He will not hear their cry when calamity strikes. 

Isaiah 59:3-4

For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.

None calls for justice, nor any pleads for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity (lawlessness).

Ladies and gentlemen, these words perfectly describe the United States today.

Isaiah 59:7-8

Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity (lawlessness); wasting and destruction are in their paths.

The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goes therein shall know no peace.

My friends, it pains me greatly to report that today our once great nation is now profoundly IMMORAL, profoundly UNJUST, and profoundly VIOLENT.

Everything about it has become rotten and its stench rancid.

The Price of Defiance

With that said, it is vital to understand that Isaiah also revealed the price a nation would be required to pay for their defiance against her benefactor—and when doing so even identified the arrogance that inspired that defiance

Isaiah 47:8

Therefore hear now this, you that are given to pleasures, [you] that dwell carelessly, that say in your heart, I am, and there is none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

Now hear God’s response

Isaiah 47:9

But these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood (the very things you said you would never suffer): they shall come upon you in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments.

Then in the spirit of Abraham Lincoln and his warning, Isaiah continues:

Isaiah 47:10

For you have trusted in your wickedness: you have said, “None sees me.” Your wisdom and your knowledge [which you call “enlightenment”], it has perverted you; and you have said in [the deceitfulness of] your heart, “I am, and there is none else beside me.”

Therefore shall evil (CALAMITY) come upon you; [and] you shall not know from whence it rises: and MISCHIEF shall fall upon you; [and] you shall not be able to put it off: and DESOLATION shall come upon you suddenly, which you shall not know.

Calamity Mischief & Desolation 

Ostensibly, Isaiah is saying to God’s people “All the worst curses of the Bible will be the cup from which you will have to drink.”

My friends, here is a brief description of that cup.

Utter Destruction

When describing the utter destruction of Israel, God said it would be perpetrated by an enemy that had a ferocious contempt for everything about them Furthermore, this enemy would show absolutely no mercy on their captives. They would only despise them, whether young or old (infants or the elderly).

Deuteronomy 28:49 

The Lord shall bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand;

Deuteronomy 28:50-52

A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the elderly nor show favor unto the young:

And he shall eat the fruit of your cattle, and the fruit of your land, until you be destroyed:

And he shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fenced walls come down, wherein you trusted, 

Great Humiliation and Injustice

Ladies and gentlemen, it is hard to imagine that things could get worse but worse they would.

God then revealed the unbelievable humiliation and injustice they would suffer.

Deuteronomy 28:30-33

1)  You shall betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: 

2)  You shall build a house, and you shall not dwell therein: 

3)  You shall plant a vineyard, and not gather the grapes thereof.

4)  Your ox shall be slain before you and you shall not eat thereof: 

5)  Your ass shall be violently taken and shall not be restored you; 

6)  Your sheep shall be given unto your enemies, and 

7)  You shall have none to rescue them.

8)  Your sons and your daughters shall be given to others and

9)  There shall be no might in your hand.

10) The fruit of your land, and your labors, shall a strange nation eat up;

11)  And you shall be only oppressed and crushed always.

Slavery

God also stated that because of Israel’s refusal to walk in the way that He would direct, they would have to march to the orders of an enemy that would enslave them.

Deuteronomy 28:47-48

Because you served not the Lord your God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;

Therefore shall you serve your enemies which the Lord shall send against you, 

• in hunger, and 
• in thirst, and 
• in nakedness, and 
• in want of all things: and 
• he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck until you be destroyed 

The Ultimate Humiliation

My friends, in a very real sense, rebellion against God by a nation that once knew Him, is nothing less than an act of depravity.

It stands as unimaginably foolish and God said it would be met with the ultimate curse: MASSIVE FAMINE. 

How MASSIVE?

Deuteronomy 28:53-56

 Today’s English Version

When your enemies are besieging your towns, you will become so desperate for food that you will even eat the children that God has given you.

Even the most refined man of noble birth will become so desperate that he will eat some of his own children.

He will not even give any to his brother or his wife or to any of his children who are left.

Even the most refined woman will behave the same way. 

She will become so desperate for food that she will secretly eat her newborn child and the afterbirth as well.

Does God Discipline?

Ladies and gentlemen, those who think the idea of “blessings” and “cursings” is inconsistent with a God of love, should ask themselves what this world would look like if there were no consequences for evil.

Does God discipline?

Listen to what the Almighty says will befall those who mock Him with their judgments—those who craft their own standard of morality.

Isaiah 5:24-25

Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

Therefore is the anger of the Lord kindled against his people, and he has stretched forth his hand against them, and has smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Ladies and gentlemen,

As much as her leaders as well as her citizens may reject it

This is America’s fate

A Final Thought:

With that said, I would like to leave you with a final thought.

My friends, as a result of this nation’s rank arrogance and secular transformation, we are now witnessing the horror of Daniel Webster’s words and Isaiah’s prophecy begin to play out—the consequences of which will literally annihilate this nation and enslave her people. 

American Defiance

With that said consider for one final moment what the Great God of Heaven Himself has been forced to witness from the very people He raised up and blessed with all manner of blessings—and despite these wonderful treasures and precious gifts, here is how this nation thanks Him.

1) America now defends as a freedom the murder of her weakest and most innocent—the unborn—human beings the Almighty actually created in His own image and very likeness 

2) America has now redefined Marriage and Family—institutions personally designed and ordained by God Himself and which picture the intimacy shared between Jesus Christ and His Church. 

3) America is more violent than at any time in its history. Whether it’s talk of war, gangs, domestic violence, crime, entertainment, racial hostilities or abortion, she has become a nation obsessed with blood. 

4) America has now perverted her culture and reshaped her sense of personal responsibility, virtue, and character—each of which once defined her life. As a result she has —in the deceitfulness of her own heart abandoned qualities reflecting a country that once trembled at God’s word.

5) America has now removed the true knowledge of her Benefactor from the public square and replaced it with a host of fables and lies—where sorcery, witchcraft, and astrology are held in esteem and Christianity in disdain.

As a result crime rules her streets and violence has become a way of life while decency has surrendered to the very worst of society.

6) America is less connected to a legitimate moral compass than at any time in her history.  She winks at promiscuity if it is “consensual.” As if adultery, fornication, homosexuality, prostitution, pornography, pedophilia, or any other perversion possesses even one ounce of virtue because the participants agree. Adam and Eve mutually agreed to eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  

How impressed was God with their unity?

7) America is more secular than at any time in its history. As a result, her Great Benefactor has been kicked out of our national discourse.

No prayer or Bible in our schools. 

No “one nation under God” in our pledge. 

No Ten Commandments in our courts. 

No religious instruction in our homes

Under the relentless prodding of secular humanism, we have ostensibly informed God “Don’t call us. We’ll call you.” 

Well, ladies and gentlemen, here’s His answer.

Isaiah 65:12

Therefore will I number you to the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that herein I delighted not. 

This to a people who at the beginning didn’t have a prayer of becoming a country until a man named Franklin persuaded them to drop to their knees and beseech a GREAT and POWERFUL FRIEND to bless them and make them GREAT as well—only to later reject that FRIEND and the covenant He made with them.

The Greatest Error

My friends, perhaps the greatest error America has ever made in its history is a total misunderstanding that God is just. And that His justice demands that sin either be punished or forgiven. 

If this country refuses to repent and turn from the evil she now embraces then there is only one option left. 

America’s Fate 

My fellow citizens, when writing about the fate that once befell the nation of Judah for its rebellion the great prophet Jeremiah lamented the utter destruction of Jerusalem.

I’m reading from the “New American Standard” version.

Lamentations 1:1

How lonely sits the city

That was full of people!

She has become like a widow

Who was once great among the nations!

She who was a princess among the provinces

Has [now] become a forced laborer! [A SLAVE]

The Last Word

Brethren, if the founding fathers and the ancient prophets are right (which they are), this nation is going to experience the greatest reversal of fortunes in human history—just as God once warned His people about so very long ago—

And it sickens me to report that we appear to be way beyond redemption.

Because of this—our once great nation which had the love and favor of the most Merciful & Powerful Benefactor in existence now finds herself in the throes of her own death and you, my friends have just heard her epitaph.

I hope this makes you think.
